Adding fares to your ORCA card
There is no card fee for the first ORCA Youth card or any replacements starting September 2022 on most transit agencies.
Riders age 13 and older are encouraged to show one of the following to the driver, if they have it:
Youth ORCA Card
- Please “tap” your card when you board. On Sound Transit light rail, please also “tap” when you exit.
- If you kept the Youth ORCA card issued by your school during the 2021-22 academic year, it will continue to work through June 30, 2023.
Current High School or Middle School Student ID
Youth who do not have one of these can still ride for free.
In 2023 and beyond, youth will be directed to get a Free Youth Transit Pass that allows them to tap a card—or eventually their smartphone—to access transit across the region for free.

How and where to apply?

myORCA.com with proof of age.
If you have a Youth card through your school and need to register the card, you can do so here.
By mail
Print and complete the application form and mail it to the ORCA Regional Mail Center along with a copy of the youth’s proof of age. The physical ORCA card should arrive within 7-10 days. Call 206-553-3000 for assistance.

Call 888-988-6722 / TTY: 711, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m; closed weekends and holidays.
In person
Bring the youth or the youth’s proof of age documentation to the Metro Pass Sales Office. It is not necessary for youth to be present.
Proof of age
To prove age for youth 6 to 18 years of age, use one of the following:
- State ID or driver’s license
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- K-12 Student ID
