Adding fares to your ORCA card
There is no card fee to get a Youth ORCA card and most transit agencies do not charge youth to ride their service. See a list of current youth fares below.
Riders aged 13 and older are encouraged to bring one of the following when they ride, if they have it:
Youth ORCA Card
- “Tap” your card when you board. On Sound Transit Link light rail and Sounder, please also “tap” when you exit.
- Register your card to ensure it works until your 19th birthday.
Current High School or Middle School Student ID
- Show your student ID to the driver as you board.
Youth who do not have one of these can still ride for free.

How and where to apply?

If you have a Youth card through your school and need to register the card, you can do so here.
By mail
Print and complete the application form and mail it to the ORCA Regional Mail Center along with a copy of the youth’s proof of age. The physical ORCA card should arrive within 7-10 days. Call 206-553-3000 for assistance.
In-person
Bring the youth or the youth’s proof of age documentation to the Metro Pass Sales Office. It is not necessary for youth to be present.
Proof of age
To prove age for youth 6 to 18 years of age, use one of the following:
- State ID or driver’s license
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- K-12 Student ID
